The ASRT Foundation, philanthropic arm of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, has awarded $265,600
in scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year.
This year's 72 recipients include practicing professionals working toward new certifications and degrees along
with entry-level students at colleges and universities throughout the United States. The Foundation’s
scholarship awards range from $500 up to $5,000 and funds them through partnerships with corporations,
non-profits and generous ASRT members. The ASRT Foundation is the worldwide leader in funding medical imaging
and radiation therapy scholarships.
Members of the Foundation Scholarship Review Committee evaluated scholarship applications and based their award
decisions on evidence of commitment, leadership, achievement and financial need. The committee provided its
recommendations to the Foundation Board of Trustees, which then approved the applicants.
In 2022, the ASRT Foundation added two new opportunities to its portfolio of scholarships:
Elio “Leo” DelVecchio Scholarship
Michael DelVecchio, B.S., R.T.(R), FASRT, created the scholarship in loving memory of his father, retired United
States Army Sergeant Elio “Leo” DelVecchio. Elio was a hardworking, lifelong learner himself, but his true
achievement was his encouragement and celebration of his and his family’s educational achievements to build a
better life for all. One award will be given for the 2022-2023 year to a medical imaging professional pursuing
an academic degree.
LGBTQ+ Scholarship
Bill May, M.Ed., R.T.(R), FASRT, a founding member of the ASRT Foundation Board of Trustees, created the
scholarship to encourage and support those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning in
their pursuit of higher education in the radiologic sciences. Recipients of this scholarship will have
demonstrated involvement in LGBTQ+ community activities as a member or leader of a LGBTQ+ club or other civic
activity connected to the community. One award will be given for the 2022-2023 year.
“Awarding more than a quarter million dollars in scholarships highlights the support our donors, partners and
members have for the next generation of radiologic technologists,” said Steve Hardy, M.S., R.T.(R)(T)(CT), CMD,
chief operating officer for the ASRT Foundation and executive vice president of development and corporate
relations for ASRT. “The Foundation is committed to ensuring students have the tools they need to achieve their
academic dreams and the support to put them on a path toward becoming leaders in the profession.”
